The village:
Douliana is a small traditional village , 22 km. East from Chania city, in an area of great natural beauty. In this village (among a total of 300 for Greece) has been awarded the title of the national conservation area of beauty “NATURA”, keeping agriculture as main activity.
The old houses have been reconstructed for holidays and provide a view over surrounding fields  according to seasons.(olives and oranges in Winter , vegetables and fruits in Summer, grapes in Autumn) There are two taverns with traditional Cretan cuisine, and a mini market with local products.

Beach and surrounds:
Beaches near by the property:  Drive to the sea  through village road surrounded by forest, wich leads to the nearest beaches KERA at 2.5 km in distance, and at 3 km is the beach of Almirida or Kalives where are Super Markets-newspapers-restaurants-bars- sporting activities center.

In the  Property are in total 5 Studios and 3 houses for a total capacity for 25 persons. Each studio is for maximum 3 persons in one large room with all facilities including full bathroom, and kitchen corner, private Balconies.

A large swimming pool 70 sqm to share, with all commodities, Parasols, sun chairs, shower.
A well known traditional Tavern is next door, and can provide group reception for all occasions.

Amazing stay in Heliopetra Apartments in Douliana
We were for the second time in the beautiful Heliopetra apartments in a very green and well-kept garden with olive trees and pomegranate trees among others. The pool is very well maintained and always crystal clear. The apartments are large and all have their own small terrace.

The owner is super nice and cares about the well-being of her guests. The price-performance ratio is exceptional. In the village itself there are two taverns, both of which are highly recommended.
One of them is directly adjacent to the apartments and you are virtually there in less than a minute. The ocean can be reached by car in 10 minutes.

The next village by the sea, Kalyves, is very nice, as it is a healthy mixture of locals and some tourism. Sun beds are available for free if you consume. At the western end of the village there is a super breakfast cafe namely Café Cactus.

Both Chania and Rethymno are easy to reach by car and always worth a trip. In summary: Excellent place to stay if you want to enjoy the somewhat quieter Cretan lifestyle to the fullest.

“As a young family of 4 we really enjoyed our two week stay. We had lots of space inside and outside the property for the children to play. However, I wouldn’t recommend for children under 4 years old, due to the stairs and balconies. The accommodation is functional but basic. The location is tricky to find but beautiful. The photos of the property really don’t do it justice.

The children spent many hours in the pool and they both learnt to swim during our stay as we often had it to ourselves. It was great to have the Taverna at the back for easy meals and the owner was very friendly. This is a great location to explore the area but you will need a car. A great holiday that we will remember fondly for many years to come.”

We had a lovely apartment, spacious and cool (air con is great!), huge double room above living (and kids’ sleeping) space. Quiet village, not at all ‘touristy’, and a really peaceful place to stay. We had a terrace outside the bedroom, great spot to sit in the evening and watch the sun set over Souda bay.

Ground floor terrace with patio furniture, lovely spot to eat (although apartment cooking facilities are very limited – don’t stay here if you’re the sort who loves to cook on holiday!). Clean, sheets and towels were changed about every 3 days, washing machine in communal office area.

Friendly owner who responded very quickly to text messages about minor issues. Pool was larger than we expected, very clean and well maintained with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. Lovely setting, well maintained and lots of flowers around so very pretty.

Excellent, good value family-run taverna right next door – some quiet music in the evening, but won’t disturb (except the night we were there and they had a very noisy wedding reception until the small hours!!). Our boys (10 and 13) loved it, especially the pool.

Easily reached from Crete’s (one!) main road and a very easy drive to many local attractions (beaches, ancient sites, lovely city of Chania, lake Kournas – fantastic pedalos and kayaks, excellent taverna, glass making in Kokkino Xoria, lovely local villages – small folk museum in Gavalochori is worth a look). Our first time on Crete, but will definitely go back to this place!
